Worst Company Domain Names

This is taken form this site. It is a list of regular corporations who didn't think twice about the domain name they would use. Here goes:

1. A site called ‘Who Represents‘ where you can find the name of the agent that represents a celebrity. Their domain name… wait for it… is
www.whorepresents.com

2. Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at
www.expertsexchange.com

3. Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at
www.penisland.net

4. Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at
www.therapistfinder.com

5. Then of course, there’s the Italian Power Generator company…
www.powergenitalia.com

6. And now, we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales:
www.molestationnursery.com

7. If you’re looking for computer software, there’s always
www.ipanywhere.com

8. Welcome to the First Cumming Methodist Church. Their website is
www.cummingfirst.com

9. Then, of course, there’s these brainless art designers, and their whacky website:
www.speedofart.com

10. Want to holiday in Lake Tahoe? Try their brochure website at

Windows Vista Trial

For those of you who love to be on top of software upcomings, especially operating systems, are going to love today's post. As of the last few days, Microsoft has been letting everyday users such as you and I have a go at using their new Windows Vista Ultimate for FREE! Yes, you heard me right, the Microsoft teams needs people to download the (.iso) file, get a key from them and start running Vista on their computer.

You can access the Microsoft page about this here. However, I do warn you that this is a Microsoft product and it is still in it's Beta stages. It is more than likely going to cause you much grief in it's everyday use. However, you will be lucky as to get so far as the Microsoft servers are unable to keep up with the requests for the (.iso) files that we need to download. By the way, Microsoft is offering both the 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) platforms in this little opportunity.

For those of you considering it, Microsoft has mentioned the following requirements:

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1.
  • 1 GB of system memory.
  • A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero2.
  • 128 MB of graphics memory.
  • 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
  • DVD-ROM Drive3.
  • Audio output capability.
  • Internet access capability.
Thus, almost everyone will be eligible to use this. Furthermore, Microsoft has also mentioned the following note:
Note: This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment or on a main machine in the home. Beta 2 is intended for developers, IT professionals and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows Vista. Before you decide to use Beta 2, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in 2007.
So, please do proceed with caution. Also note that this key does not entail you the 2007 final release version--only the beta.

So, click here and get going!

    Vonage IPO

Okay, so it might be a little late to discuss the bust that was the Vonage IPO. For those of you who don't know Vonage (VG), they are the #1 VOIP provider at the moment. On May 25, 2006, the company went public at an initial share price of about $17. It ended it's first day of trading at $14.85. Today, the stock closed at $12.10, up slightly after it's rock bottom price of $11.63 on June 1. Personally, I was looking to invest into this stock on the day of the IPO but later decided to wait it out as research showed mixed results. When I checked on the stock mid-day, it was down $2 and I had then discovered I had just dodged a bullet. So then, what can we attribute to this fiasco?

    1. A bad week for the stocks

Simple enough, the week of the IPO marked the middle of the downfall of the Dow and Nasdaq, especially after the Dow hit a high back in mid-May. The Dow closed today only two points above the 11,000 mark.

    2. Skype

Only a month before the planned IPO, Skype, now owned by eBay, decided to offer free calling to it's customers within US and Canada. This sent serious doubts through Wall Street as investors started to lose faith in Vonage's profitability. This move by the Skype/eBay management could not have been better played. Due to Skype's large financial backing, they were able to cut their paid call services and now offer them as free. The provider hopes to take this calling feature full scale by the end of 2006. This could have disasterous effects for companies like Vonage who charge around $14.99 to $24.99 per month for their VOIP calling features.

    I think I smell another Microsoft-Netscape boiling.

    Sophos: Democracy

    Sophos: Democracy

    Word.

    Real World: The RPG?

Okay, so here's the latest little set of toys from guys over at Google. Seems like they're working on (and nearly perfecting) three new things called SketchUp, 3D Warehouse, and the Google Earth Plugin for these two.

    SketchUp

The site describes this program as:

    3D for Everyone

Developed for the conceptual stages of design, SketchUp is powerful yet easy-to-learn 3D software. We think of it as the pencil of digital design. This award-winning software combines a simple, yet robust tool-set that streamlines and simplifies 3D design inside your computer. SketchUp is being used by anyone with the desire to...

Dream, Design and Communicate in 3D
In reality, this program is just like AutoCad, only not nearly as powerful and a heck of a lot easier to learn and utilize. Moreover, it's also a lot cheaper--free! You can then save and export your creations.

    3D Warehouse

This is the place where everyone submits their final products. You can upload whatever it is that you have built and allow others to download it. Although, I'm not sure can edit these models, I know for a fact you can implement them into your own creations. For example, if someone makes a really nice looking chair, which I saw on there, you can download it and then use it in the model of your house.

    Google Earth Plugin

This is the little piece that got me more excited than ever. What this allows, is that you can take your models built in SketchUp and then move them into Google Earth. There, you can also add building to the rather flat look of the terrain and there is hope that you can also create people and move them around as well. Therefore, you could design your very own house, place it on a piece of land in Google Earth and be able to see it in 3-D. It is a pretty snazzy little tool that I will be playing around with more.

Enjoy these little tools and expect more updates to the blog.

    Welcome

This is just another one of my attempts to start a blog on the online world. However, rather than ranting about stupid things, such as my life, I will be covering new discoveries and innovations in the Business and/or Technology world. I will also be putting up random videos and funny pictures as time killers. Please be patient while I get the first few posts up.

Also, I'm looking for other people who would like to contribute to this blog. If you have a lot to share about business and/or technology, please contact me via e-mail at mung35@gmail.com or on AIM--SN: MunG35

    Stay tuned.
